Deep Hole Drilling is a process of measuring the distribution of stress along the axis of a drilled reference hole with semi-destructive mechanical strain techniques. Any hole, which has diameter more than 4 to 5 times of its diameter, is considered as deep hole. With the help of deep drilling machines and proper tools, a deep hole can be produced in just one pass. There are numerous machining tools and equipment available, which are widely used to create deep holes. The process of drilling is beneficial across numerous applications, including- gas and oil exploration, aerospace equipment, engines, armaments, etc.
The process of deep hole drilling is also very common in the machining industry, where holes are drilled for various high performance applications. There are numerous methods used for deep hole drilling. The most common ones are the gun drilling, Single Tube System and Ejector drilling method. Gun Drilling is the oldest method of drilling very deep and long holes. It was used to make gun barrels over 100 years ago. With the advancement in the technology, gun drilling method has underwent several changes and at present, it is utilized as a reliable method for the production of short, long as well as deep holes.

Examples of deep-hole drilling achievements
Single tube system is a drilling process that has drill tube at the pressure head. When it works, chips are evacuated through the center of the drill. This method produces satisfactory results and good surface finish. Another commonly used method is the two tube system, which is also prominent by the name of Ejector drilling. In this method, drill tube is used that consists of an inner and outer tube. This method of drilling is widely used on places where the face of the part is irregular and adopted for use in machining centers and lathes.
